Brew the Himalayas at home with our authentic Tongba and Chhaang DIY Kits.

Maybe you have heard of the Himalayas or trekked their rugged trails.

Maybe you have shared a round of Tongba or Chhaang in a mountain village.

Or maybe these names are entirely new to you.

Either way, you are in the right place.

Tongba and Chhaang are living fermentation traditions of the Himalayas. These brews have been poured beside Sherpa hearths, shared during Limbu rituals in Ilam, and passed from hand to hand across Nepal, Sikkim, Tibet, Bhutan, and the foothills of Darjeeling.

They are not just drinks.

They are how warmth is shared.

How stories are told.

How community is formed.

Why Yak&Brew Exists

Yak&Brew was born from a deeply personal place.

Our founder, Dawa, grew up between Nepal, Darjeeling, and Sikkim, where Tongba was never something you bought. It was something you prepared, waited for, and shared. It was present at festivals, family gatherings, and long winter nights.

Years later, far from home, that ritual was missing.

Yak&Brew exists to bring that experience back through thoughtfully designed DIY fermentation kits. Not as a novelty, and not as a shortcut, but as a respectful way to brew these traditions at home.

What You Are Brewing

Tongba

Made with 100 percent organic red finger millet and traditional Himalayan fermentation culture.

Warm, earthy, and meant to be shared slowly.

Chhaang

A traditional blend of millet and rice, inspired by summer gatherings and everyday hospitality across the Himalayas.

Light, tangy, and refreshing.

Each Yak&Brew kit is prepared in small batches and includes carefully sourced grains, traditional yeast culture, reusable fermentation tools, and clear step by step instructions.

You do not need brewing experience.

You only need patience and curiosity.

Everything you need to brew Tongba or Chhaang at home is included.

When you brew at home, you are not just making a drink.

You are reviving a ritual that honors resilience, resourcefulness, and celebration. From the first pour of hot water to the final sip, this is a process that asks you to slow down and pay attention.

It is not instant.

That is the point.
