Yak & Brew was born from a vision to bring the rich traditions of Nepalese Tongba brewing to the United States. Our founder, a Nepalese immigrant, sought to fuse locally grown North Carolina millet with authentic Murcha yeast from Nepal to create a magical brewing experience that stays true to its Himalayan roots.
Having grown up with the warm communal tradition of Tongba, he wanted to make it accessible to homebrewers everywhere while using the best locally sourced ingredients. By blending North Carolina’s finest millet with the time-honored fermentation methods of Nepal, Yak & Brew offers a one-of-a-kind DIY kit that celebrates both heritage and innovation.
We are committed to preserving Nepalese culture through brewing while supporting local farmers in Raleigh, NC. By introducing Tongba to a wider audience, we hope to create a shared experience where people can brew, sip, and connect just as families and friends have done for generations in the Himalayas.
